Eric O'Dell's imagery tends to arise from the familiar, reflected mainly in having spent a lifetime in the American South. The work, through the processes of painting and drawing, aims to assert itself among the familiar and often dredges up fragments of memories conscious and unconscious, flashes of things seen, ached for, recalled along the way. Eric likes to reset himself in the wilderness, and for him that means pines, heat, light and atmosphere. More recently, he has become familiar with the ancient architecture and timeless streets of Greece and Italy, where he travels every summer, bringing his sketchbook wherever he goes.
